Description |
"Waukazoovillle, Michigan" by Larry M. Wycoff (2021). A narrative History of the Villlage of Waukazooville which was platted by Chief Peter Waukazoo and the Reverand George N.Smith in1850. This 14 page history traces the story of the community whose members were orignally the Anishiaahbek (Odawa) who moved to Leelanau County after being displaced from their homes in Allegan County, MI. The oriiginal villagers were associated with the Rev. Smith's Congregational Mission. Settlers moved into the area and Odawa moved other other locations following the Treaty of 1855. The name of the village was changed to Northport in 1873. The text details the land transfers and identifies the Odawa who owned land in the Village. Hard copy amd digital file. |
